ACF Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament

The American Coaches Association will host its inaugural golf tournament benefiting high school student-athletes who suffered permanent injuries while participating in their sport. Scholarships will be awarded to ten student-athletes, five girls and five boys, who will be chosen from applicants recommended by their coaches from around the country. The tournament will be held in the spring of 2008 in Destin, FL. The exact date and location of the tournament will be announced later.

Tournament Specifics

  • All college, high school, and club coaches are invited to participate
  • The format will be a four-person team scramble.
  • There will be thirty-six teams. Eighteen teams will tee off at 8:00 and eighteen teams will tee off at 1:00.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • There will be a “Luau” banquet with a cash bar at 7:00 P.M.
  • Nice prizes will be awarded to the first four places in both the men’s division and the women’s division. There will also be drawings for numerous door prizes.
  • Scholarship checks will be awarded to the ten recipients and plaques will be presented to the sponsors.
  • The cost per team is $1,000. Team members will pay half this amount ($125 per person) and a team sponsor will pay the other half ($500).

Sponsorships

  • We will need at least 144 team sponsors. We must have $500 for each sponsorship but we will ask for more. Hopefully, we can get 200 sponsors, which will allow us to pay for some guests.
  • We will go after some big name sponsors for the whole tournament. We’ll try to get as much as we can from them as well as use their name.
  • We will solicit – several times by e-mail – every college sports program and encourage them to donate to this very worthy cause by sponsoring a team. We will also encourage them to send their coaches and pay their tournament fees.
  • We will research various businesses, civic groups, sports organizations, etc. to solicit for sponsorship.
  • We will need to provide some type of national recognition for our sponsors – maybe on our Web site – as well as give each one a nice engraved plaque.
  • The scholarships will be funded: $3,500. for each of the first three college years and $4,500 the forth year. The student must be enrolled at an accredited four-year college full-time and must have completed all courses the previous year in order to receive the next scholarship installment. Scholarship award monies will be held in an escrow account.
  • Scholarship awards will be based on need and circumstances rather than academics. High school coaches will be asked to submit nominations and why they think their nominee should be considered. We will use these nominee stories in our solicitations for sponsorships.
